Curriculum
ISD Middle School Curriculum is designed to support students during a critical time of growth - academically, socially, and emotionally - while preparing them for success in high school and beyond.
Students engage in core coursework alongside exploratory opportunities that help them discover interests, build confidence, and develop essential skills. Our curriculum focuses on strong academic foundations, organization, collaboration, and critical thinking so students are prepared to take ownership of their learning and successfully transition to the next level.
AVID
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) helps students build the skills they need to succeed in college and life. Used in more than 6,000 schools worldwide, AVID integrates research-based strategies into any subject to promote student-centered learning, collaboration, and higher-level thinking.
Students use tools like Cornell Notes to identify key concepts, develop meaningful questions, and strengthen their study habits. Students are provided with a standardized 3-ring notebook, pencil pouch, notebook dividers, and other materials that are important for a student to have each day. AVID also focuses on essential life skills, including organization, time management, public speaking, and self-advocacy.
AVID is offered wall-to-wall model, meaning every ISD middle school student follows these strategies.
